welcome to leviosa
an overview
Welcome, students and guests. I am Headmistress McGonagall, and I am here to help you navigate your new school.Leviosa is an immersive, multi-faceted Harry Potter experience. Join and earn points for a house, take classes and do homework as a student, interact with other students in role-plays around the school, and share your Harry Potter creations with the community. The more posts you have, the closer you are to advancing to your next year, and you can aim for prestigious positions such as House Prefect, Head Boy or Girl, or even Professor or Head of House. Join clubs such as the Potions or Dueling Club, or even try out for your House's Quidditch team. No matter your desire when enrolling at Leviosa, there is a place and a role for you.
We do not have a set era or plot, as this is a site for all kinds of Potterverse roleplays, as well as the Hogwarts experience. Any member can pick any era to RP, the freedom is all yours.
getting started
First, if you would like to join Leviosa, click 'Register' at the top of the page. Once enrolled, please refer to the Sorting thread in the Great Hall. Fill out the questionnaire in a reply to the thread, and I will retrieve your Sorting results for you via owl. You will receive the password for your common room, and if your female, the additional password for the girl's dormitory.Once you have joined Leviosa and been Sorted, your path in the school is open for you to choose. From here, you may take classes, join clubs, share your fan creations, or set up role-plays in locations all through the castle.
As a member of Leviosa, there is no limit to the number of personas/characters you create here. As long as you can keep your characters from getting mixed up, feel free to make as many as you like. Please note, however, that all characters created must be Sorted.
We encourage our members to create an Alias/OOC account, to make it easier to contact a member (sending an owl to an OOC account is better than sending 3 or 5 to all characters belonging to one member). However, this is not required.
Once your account has been created, you will receive your own personal board in the Members Boards section of Leviosa. Here, you can post whatever you wish - character sheets, drabbles, inspirations, playlists - it's your thread to do with as you please.
taking classes
Classes at Leviosa are set up by student year, and student years are designated by the number of posts you have. When you first enroll, you begin with a post count of zero (0), and are therefore a First Year. The post count requirement per year is as follows:- First Year: 0-49 posts
- Second Year: 50-99 posts
- Third Year: 100-149 posts
- Fourth Year: 150-199 posts
- Fifth Year: 200-249 posts
- Sixth Year: 250-299 posts
- Seventh Year: 300+ posts
These levels are liable to change depending on the activity level of the Leviosa community. If these requirements do change, members will be notified via the announcement board and a site-wide owl letter.
As a First Year, you are able to take all the core classes. These are the basic classes that all wizarding students are required to take through their first five years at Hogwarts School: Transfiguration, Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Herbology, History of Magic, and Astronomy.
Of course, you as a member of Leviosa are not required to participate in all or any of these classes, but if you wish to achieve a special leadership rank such as House Prefect, Head Boy or Girl, or even Professor or Head of House, passing grades in all required classes are, for the most part, necessary.
For more in-depth information on how our classes and grading system works, refer to the Taking Classes thread.
Once you've reached your third year, you can register for the O.W.L. classes. Attending at least one O.W.L. class through N.E.W.T. level is required to graduate Hogwarts School. At your 6th year, you must take the O.W.L. exams for each class you have attended, and your grade in these exams will determine whether or not you shall continue on to a class's N.E.W.T. level for your 6th and 7th years.
At the end of your 7th year, you are able to take the N.E.W.T. exams, and should you pass, graduate Hogwarts School. Once graduated, you are eligible to apply for a staff position (should you also meet the separate requirements of the desired position).
staff and student leadership positions
There are many opportunities to become a larger part of the Leviosa community. There are many staff positions available, that are open to any member of Leviosa (should they put in the effort). Become one of your house's prefects, and perhaps even Head Boy or Girl of the school while you study and attend classes. Once you graduate, you can then apply to become the professor of your favorite subject, or even the Head of your Hogwarts House. Student leadership positions are available to all members of Leviosa, as long as the requirements are met. If you wish to become a Prefect, you should most certainly be attending Hogwarts classes, and achieving top marks in your schoolwork. A high amount of House points couldn't hurt either. Head Boys or Girls are chosen from existing Prefects in their 7th year, and should be maintaining their high standing in both classes and points.
Professor positions are available to all those Hogwarts students who have successfully graduated, and meet the requirements of each position. Requirements include the O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. exam scores in that subject, as well as a minimum number of Os achieved in any subject for both exams.
There is, of course, and activity requirement for any staff or student leadership position. We want to make sure that our special members are especially active!
If your favorite professor position has been filled, worry not! As seniority by post count is a very important part of Leviosa, a higher post count (plus the required grades) will earn you the staff position! If you have earned your favorite position, be sure to remain active in order to keep it!
Prefects and Head Student positions change frequently, as the positions are reopened at the end of every month. Prefects may only remain as such for a max of 3 months, whereas Head Students can maintain their position indefinitely. For more information on staff and student leadership positions, please see its dedicated thread.
Roleplaying
RPing is another massive part of Leviosa. As we do not have a global era or time frame or plot, roleplaying here is more free. Members can decided which era they would like to roleplay in, can create original characters from any era they please, and come up with their own plots or alternate universes. Any board on Leviosa can be used to create original roleplays in, with the exception of the Information Boards, Hogwarts Express, class boards, club boards, and staff offices. Because the scope of possible RPs on Leviosa is so large, it is understood that a roleplay can start in one location and travel all over. You'll notice that there are all sorts of location boards to choose from. However, rather than hopping from board to board as your roleplay travels, we ask that you create your RP thread in the board where the RP will begin, and keep it there, regardless of in-character location changes.
Leviosa has an entire board dedicated to RP information - a Canon Character Claim list, a Face Claim list, a Plotter Board, and Member boards. Check out all the canon characters that can be played on Leviosa, and claim your favorite at the Canon Character Claim. Take a look at the list of faces found on Leviosa at the Face Claim list and register your character's face claim. List out your characters and their traits, a brief history, or something they might be looking for in the Plotter board, and meet the other characters of Leviosa that want to get to know yours.
Members are encourage to create a Thread Tracker thread for their characters within their own Member Board, as there are many locations and many threads on Leviosa.

And that's the basic information you'll need to get started here at Leviosa. If you have any questions, feel free to send an owl to Minerva McGonagall , Leviosa staff, or post a reply here.
